Ep 7 – The Mormon Psychic Part 1

Written by on October 23, 2012

Glenn talks to Christa, a Mormon Psychic. He is joined by Tom and Melissa for a psychic reading about the quest for spiritual truth, past life trauma, Joseph Smith, the Golden Plates, Brigham Young, the value of doubt, and the essential nature of the universe.

Sounds to me like she wasn’t sure that it was BY at the beginning but that it was just assumed that it must have been him for the rest of that segment…. any chance she was actually seeing someone else that may have brought JS into polygamy? or does that ring true based on the history we have available?

    • Glenn Ostlund   On   October 23, 2012 at 7:10 pm

Well, she isn’t “sure” about a lot of things. I like her and I think she is sincere (not trying to intentionally dupe anyone — she isn’t in this for money) and I am not advocating a belief in her one way or the other. But if you take what she says at face value, she wasn’t sure if it was BY or not — she was just “getting” that it was — whatever that means. Some people have claimed that polygamy was introduced into Mormonism via the Cochranite doctrine (early polygamists in New England who converted to Mormonism in the early 1830s). Brigham Young was one of the missionaries involved in converting the Cochranite group and may have been influenced by their teachings. I don’t know how much I buy this or not, but you can read about this here:

How soon until you have the next part available? I am interested in hearing the rest of what she has to say about Jesus, the Atonement, etc.

I really did like it! I think you did a great job with her. After listening to your first interview with Christa, I made contact with her and have talked with her several times. The questions you posed are ones that I have wondered about, but have not asked her myself. Can’t wait to hear the rest!

I loved this episode. I enjoyed the humor and the different ideas presented through Christa’s readings. I laughed out loud a couple times at work. It wasn’t what I was expecting, and I can’t wait to hear part two!!

Very interesting episode. I remember the Voices interview too, but the quality here trumps anything I had heard before. I have to wonder, is Christa very active? Years ago a woman in our area was excommunicated for claiming similar abilities. Is Christa ever concerned over this?
Once more I have to say how impressed I am with the format of this podcast. You guys continue to impress with each episode. But in the future, I hope you have Christa back on for a live episode. I think you owe it to your devoted listeners to delve deeper into this past life relationship between Tom and Glenn. Inquiring minds want to know…

Thanks sd. Christa wants to schedule a recording with me to talk about the reaction she has had from different people since her Voices interview. We’re trying to find the time now. I’ll ask her some of these questions then, but I think her activity is fairly steady and I don’t think she is worried about excommunication because what eternal consequence would an imaginary power-and-fear-based action actually have over an old soul like her? 🙂 But again, I’ll ask.
I’m also planning on getting the other guys together for a panel discussion about these readings, because I know they all have some things they want to weigh in on as well. So you can expect more of this kind of thing in future episodes. But this will be just one of many topics we explore here. Like we said in our Introduction, we hope to cover a wide range of interests. And I think we are still getting the hang of this.

Yes, I too would be interested in knowing how the church feels about this and if she is still a member of the church today. Very interesting! Thank you.

This was a really interesting interview. I do not understand how she is Mormon with what her beliefs are. She did give me another way to view JS.
I was wondering did anyone lose any weight after this podcast? Did anyone add to their family?

    • Melissa   On   October 25, 2012 at 6:10 pm

Ha! I haven’t “officially” lost #,but I continue to work out and just not stress so much about it. Cutting out/back on wheat has helped me feel better and my skin issues are resolved!
hear that Tom?… It was worth asking! ;p Though, I didn’t expect that to become public knowledge!! Thanks Big Bro. payback will come … (evil cackel).
My hubby & I have no plans to add to the family. Still quite content in that department. 🙂
Loving the new podcast boys! Great job by all who have posted. Keep ’em coming!

I’d like to get in contact with Christa and see if she would do a reading for me. How can I do that? Her website doesn’t seem to be working.

  7. Mike Tannehill   On   October 25, 2012 at 9:36 pm

I think she is really in contact with spirits but they are false and lying spirits. There is no coherence in the ideas expressed and they do not align with the doctrines of the LDS church in any way.

    • nielper   On   October 26, 2012 at 3:51 pm

Good point Mike. Christa should try to shake hands with the spirits so she can know if they are from the devil or not.

    • celestial9513   On   February 21, 2013 at 3:01 am

Of course… if something doesn’t align with your belief system, then it must be in error. Your belief system can’t be wrong… Other people’s parents are mislead, but YOUR parents were absolutely right… Funny thing is most people believe that about their parents and their belief system…

I am loving this new podcast. The way you put it together with music and audio quotes is fabulous. The sound effects add so much humor. Everytime I hear the kids cheering, it makes me laugh. Great job on this podcast!

You were right Glenn. I could only make it 5 minutes in. I think it was on about the 10th or 11th misuse of the word “energy” that I gave up.
If Christa is sincere, she should take the nearly 50-year-old (and still unmet) James Randi challenge. It’s $1 million and all she has to do is go on there and prove her psychic stuff under controlled conditions. Christa, think of all the good you could do with $1 million.

Wow! I really Loved that. A friend sent me a link to her #2 interview, but I liked #1 better. You mention that there is much more that you discussed with her including her channeling Emma Smith… I want to hear it all!!! 🙂 Please post it soon!!!

  11. Odell   On   March 21, 2014 at 1:19 pm

I had a very difficult time with her speaking cadence. The “people” who spoke to Christa seemed very tired when asked specific questions.
